Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for SC ST

Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship programme is a specially designed for the students who belong from the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes community. This scheme is designed by the Ministry of Social Justice Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The aim behind this fellowship is to provide help to pursuing higher education such as Humanities, Social Sciences, Engineering Technology and M. Phil. and Ph D degrees in Sciences. Every year around 1333 seats are allotted for the Scheduled Caste and 667 seats allotted for the Scheduled Tribe candidates.

Eligibility for the Fellowship:
The candidates who want this fellowship must have to belong from the SC/ ST category and have to pass the post graduation examination. The maximum period of the fellowship is two year so candidate must have to register himself/ herself in the programme before it expiring.

Selection Procedure for the fellowship:
The selection of the candidate is done on the basis of marks which are obtained in the last year of concern examination. Applications for the fellowships will invite by the advertisement in the leading news papers or through the UGC website. These applications are invited once in a year. The application form must be sent to University Grants Commission office before last date of submission.

General Information:
The maximum validity period of the RGNFS is two years and before expiring it applicant is necessary to enroll. The payment of the fellowship will be done only when or from the joining date of the candidate in the fellowship programme. If the progress of the candidate is satisfactory in the period of three years than the name of the candidate is recommended for the next level of the fellowship i.e. RGNSRF (Rajiv Gandhi National Senior Research Fellowship).
